Strengthening the position of the disadvantaged on the archipelago 

The Republic of the Philippines consists of over 7000 islands, which together cover an area of 300,000 km2 . Roughly 81.4 million people inhabit around 1000 islands. The political situation in the country is unstable, many necessary reform projects are making little progress: the fight against poverty, good governance, land reform. Economic growth is very modest, the foreign debt is huge. The society is marked by huge social inequalities. Armed conflicts between Muslim rebel groups and the military are rooted in these inequalities and should not be interpreted as a religious conflict between Christians and Muslims.
The target groups of projects supported by Fastenopfer include communities of small farmers, fishing communities as well as small Christian communities. In each case, special attention is given to women.
