Improving food security 

Burkina Faso is today one of the poorest countries in the world. Unemployment leads many of its inhabitants to seek work in the richer countries further south.
Poor soils, extensive stock raising, water shortages and strong population growth are key factors that have resulted in a decline in agricultural productivity in recent years. In some parts of the country, the degradation of the land is now pushing agricultural use to its limits.
